A Walk with a Product Marketeer

2024/09/11

I had a powerful conversation with Gokul today.

Now, I’m reflecting on the key takeaways that will shape how I move forward.

Here’s the breakdown:

  1. Start with the problem
Before jumping in, ask: What problem am I solving?
Conversations first. The answers are in people’s stories.

  2. Define your people
    Who are you speaking to?
Personas are just the beginning. Develop deeper Ideal Customer Profiles (ICPs) by diving into their world.

  3. Do your homework
Study the companies. Research their pain points.
When you understand what they are dealing with, you can respond with more than just answers—you can give them a solution.

  4. Experience drives the approach
    Immerse yourself in their challenges.
Conversations refine your path, but immersion sharpens it.

  5. Shift the focus
It’s not about your product; it’s about their experience.
Gokul recommended the book “The MOM Test” — a blueprint for focusing on their goals over your offer.
(You can find it in my reading list.)

  6. Create with intention
Write about solving their pain points from your perspective.
    Real stories. Personal experiences.
This builds trust. AI helps, but people connect with people, not just tech.
